Coworker Jenna "accidentally" deletes employee's entire client campaign folder the day before a major pitch, then lands the promotion they were both competing for: ‘It was a mess’

Frustrated employee reacting after a workplace mistake affects a major project.
I work on a relatively small marketing team, and each of us handles our own set of client accounts. A few months ago, I was wrapping up a huge campaign for a client, and honestly, to put it politely, they're the type to send six follow-up emails about the shade of blue.
This campaign took more than a month to put together. We had short-form videos, display ads, copy variations, reporting decks, audience notes, and everything else.

I had all of it in a shared drive folder with a very clear name, because that is literally our process, so that if someone gets sick or leaves the job in the middle of a campaign, someone else can pick it up.

The day before the final pitch, I signed in to do one last review, and found that the folder had simply... Disappeared. Empty. I searched the activity logs, trash, old links, recent files, and everything I could possibly think of. Nothing useful.

It turned out that my coworker "Jenna" had opened the drive the night before and deleted the entire folder, because according to her, she thought it was "duplicate junk taking up storage."

For context, the folder name was basically Client_Y_LaunchCampaignAssets_ Q32026_KEEP_ACTIVE_DO_NOT_R EMOVE

My manager's response was basically a sigh and "mistakes happen," followed by "we need to focus on solutions." So I spent the next day rebuilding what I could from Slack uploads, email threads, export previews, and half-finished drafts. It was a mess. And we lost the account.

And because life loves to joke around, Jenna had also applied for an internal role that I wanted. She's the one who got it. Honestly, I'm still upset about it.

Muted Piccolo278 Sounds more intentional on Jenna's part than accidental. Just saying..

Coriolanuscangetit I always keep my stuff on a personal drive and a shared drive, for exactly this reason. I don't trust anyone with my work.
